Joyce Krug was born and raised in Lohrville, Iowa, and she and her husband Jim now live near Ames. She is the mother of three, grandmother of seven, a Master Gardener, and retired administrative assistant.

The small school she attended from kindergarten through high school, did not offer art classes. As a young woman she took a night class in oil painting at the local library and, later, through YWCAs in Omaha and Lexington, Kentucky. In the 70s, the demands of a growing family meant little free time, and the paints were stored away and forgotten.

The Krugs moved back to Iowa from Illinois in 2001, and a close friend encouraged Joyce to get back into art and to join a Monday morning painting group in Ames. An excellent experience, it was the push she needed to start again, this time in acrylics. Joyce has displayed her work at the Iowa State Fair and at Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames. What you see in this gallery is the result of picking up a paint brush again in 2012.
